I am a dragon: the true story of Alessandro Mendini – La Triennale

Through Oct. 13, the exhibition Io sono un drago: the true story of Alessandro Mendini is the perfect opportunity to observe a retrospective of the designer and artist Alessandro Mendini. An exhibition that is structured in such a way as to captivate the audience among sections, works, materials and subjects, which come from public and private collections. “I am not an architect, I am a dragon,” so wrote Mendini in his philosophical diagrams. At the Milan Triennale, a golden opportunity to analyze not only the works, but also the Mendini’s own role during the twentieth century.

Iconic Auböck

Also running through Oct. 13, dear design lovers, we can suggest a “hop” to the Auböck workshop in Vienna for the exhibition Iconic Auböck. At the MAK, you can see more than 400 items, various classic and iconic pieces in a mix of materials, patterns, and prints, focusing mainly on the 1920s, 1930s, and after World War II, up to the 1980s. A must-see design exhibition in Vienna to discover authentic Austrian design. The Auböck workshop has, indeed, gained an influential position on the international scene, not only in Austria, with distinctive innovations and products. And, for that matter, to own some of the collectibles designed by Carl Auböck III is even the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Art Biennale, The Venice Biennale

This design exhibition, personally curated by Adriano Pedrosa, runs through Nov. 24, 2024: the title of the 60th Venice International Art Exhibition, which officially opened to the public on April 20, is Strangers Everywhere – Foreigners Everywhere. There are 331 artists and collectives that have been selected for the Biennale, and there are many not to be missed, including Eva Jospin’s Selva, Julie Mehretu’s Ensemble, No man is an island or even Arne Quinze’s Are We The Aliens. Mark them all.

Danish Modern at Designmuseum Danmark

Let’s fly to Denmark? The good news is that this exhibition runs until May 3, 2026, so we have plenty of time not to miss it. In particular, it focuses on Danish design from 1920 to 1970, telling the story of how, from the “handcrafted” style, it evolved into the famous Danish style that is now recognized worldwide. Yes, there is a chance to see “live” some of the most iconic Danish design objects.

Nieuwe Instituut – Garden Futures

Not only design and furniture, but also cutting-edge gardens: the theme of the exhibition Garden Futures at Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam is no longer tied to the concept of garden romance as it was until recently. Today the garden becomes the ideal place to experiment and lay the foundations for a more solid future under the banner of sustainability and biodiversity. From November 15, 2024 March 2025.
