Pets that started disappearing and mysterious sightings of a feline creature that resembled a panther: so began the bizarre story of a beautiful mansion that got the name of “Beast Mansion”, precisely because of the “beast” that roamed his garden. But what was it all about? The riddle was soon solved, but it fascinated many people. And today the house is for sale, for a very 8 million pounds.

Where the Beast Mansion is located.

We are in the heart of London, in one of the most beautiful areas of the city: this is the Cricklewood neighborhood, a leafy area located north of the inner city, away from the traffic and chaos of the capital. Once a small rural hamlet, it was then gradually incorporated into the London suburbs as the city line expanded. Today it is a very quiet residential neighborhood, characterized mainly by Victorian and Edwardian housing, which make the atmosphere very atmospheric. And this is where the Beast Mansion, a very special mansion, stands.

London’s mystery house: its creature.

The story of the Beast Mansion began in 1991, when the first decidedly bizarre sightings began. At the time, the mansion belonged to Farhana Meerza, who raised her very large family there. And the woman had no idea what was really going on in the garden on her property. Some people, obviously frightened, began to report the presence of a mysterious feline creature in the lush greenery that surrounded the house. The “Beast of Barnet,” as it was nicknamed, looked like a panther of considerable size.

The Beast Mansion

At the same time, many pets such as small dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits began to suddenly disappear. No one could get to the bottom of the puzzle, as the beast continued to roam the neighborhood streets at night, throwing everyone into disarray. At first, law enforcement officials did not take the reports seriously. A cleaner who was working for the Meerza family revealed to the Telegraph, “I thought it was a leopard or something. I called the police immediately. I think they didn’t believe me at first, because they just laughed.”

As the reports accumulated, however, it became clear that something strange was indeed going on. A police helicopter surveyed the area for a long time, finding no sign of the creature. Some experts from the London Zoo were even called in, but they were unable to solve the mystery. People, for safety’s sake, began to lock themselves in their homes and secure their animals. Only in 2001, finally, did the truth emerge: in the garden of the mansion was found a female specimen of Eurasian lynx..

The creature, captured by the police and zoo guards, was initially mistaken for a puma or a leopard, but it soon became clear that she was actually a lynx that had escaped from a nearby home where she had been kept illegally for years by her owner. Lara-that was the name she was given-was then transferred first to the big cat enclosure of the city zoo, then moved to the Parc Zoologique du Bois de Coulange, in France. She died in 2009 after giving birth to several small lynxes.

“If someone had told us that the ‘Beast of Barnet’ was living and wandering in the undergrowth at the end of our long garden, we would have thought it was all a joke and never believed it.”-said Mrs. Farhana Meerza-“My husband and I never took it seriously and said it was all nonsense until, of course, we found out that our backyard had really been his lair.” It must have been a shock to learn that just a few meters from one’s family lived a creature that had practically become legendary.

What the beautiful mansion looks like: the garden and interiors

The bedroom

But let’s see what this charming villa looks like that is on the market today. It is a large property covering an area of almost 950 square meters, arranged on three floors and perfect for a large family. Inside are as many as 13 bedrooms, some of which have private bathrooms, while the living area features two reception rooms and a kitchen worthy of a real chef. There is no shortage of areas dedicated to relaxation, including a fully equipped gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a sauna.

One enters the large garden, which as we have seen completely surrounds the house, delving into what appears to be a real undergrowth. A beautiful porch with white columns opens in front of the house, beyond which one enters the entrance hall with a spiral staircase and a large crystal chandelier. The dining rooms are declined in beige shades reminiscent of nature, with huge floor-to-ceiling windows that allow plenty of light to enter. Prominent among them is an ornate fireplace that is beautifully displayed in the center of one of the rooms.

The garden

Next, on the ground floor is the kitchen, equipped with really everything you may need to bring to the table a luxurious feast for numerous diners. It is also on this level that you can access the swimming pool and sauna area, ideal for a day to be spent relaxing. On the upper floors, the bedrooms and bathrooms are simply furnished but impressive. From the windows you can admire a beautiful panorama: that of the lush gardens, which are also home to a tranquil pond with a waterfall-and which now no longer serve as a den for the mysterious creature.

The sale price of the house

The house, just over 20 years after the passing of its legendary feline, is now on the market. In fact, the owner said that her daughters are now grown and it no longer makes sense to stay in such a large home that some other family might enjoy. The sale has been entrusted to Beauchamp Estates. Its manager, Rosy Khalastchy, said, “This is the first time in my career that I have been asked to sell a London house that for more than a decade has been linked to a panther-like creature that lived lurking in the back garden. Instead of a historical ghost, this house had its own monster. The mansion is for sale for £8 million, equivalent to about 9 million 400 thousand euros.
