There are those who, in the choice of colors to use in decorating home, gets advice from an experienced figure and those who prefer DIY, which certainly gives much more satisfaction. However, when dealing with particular shades, it may be difficult to find the perfect matches the first time. One example is the color sugar paper, a beautiful shade that looks great on walls and furnishings in any room. What is the color palette that best suits this shade? Let’s find out together.

What is sugar paper color

First of all, let’s clarify the terminology: what color is sugar paper? There is no specific reference code, so we can only identify it on the basis of certain characteristics. Generally, it is understood to be a dusty shade of blue, quite desaturated and somewhere between light blue and gray. Originally, this color was obtained through the use of ford or indigo, so that it often had very different intensities and shades. By the way, where does this name come from? We need to take a little leap back in time: until the mid-1900s, sugar was sold wrapped in paper packages to be carried home.

This wrapping had a peculiar bluish coloration (which, as we have seen, was in any case not the same for everyone). It served to make the possible yellowish tinge of the sugar, due to a still rather crude craftsmanship, less noticeable. This custom had been widespread since the late 1400s, but over the centuries the color of sugar paper changed: after the use of plant extracts-such as the ford and theindigo – turned to that of minerals such as Prussian Blue. The idea behind it, in addition to masking any imperfections in the shade of the sugar, was to make the wrapping of a product that was considered extremely valuable at the time more elegant.

The perfect pairings

Today, the color sugar paper finds wide use in interior design and is considered very fashionable for interior design. Many people choose it to paint the walls of their homes, mainly because it is particularly versatile: in a bright room it helps to increase space and diffuse light well, while in bedrooms it offers a relaxing feeling. Not to mention, then, that it is a very elegant and refined shade, able to go well with various styles of decor, from classic to Nordic and even industrial.

It is, of course, all about choosing the right shades to use for the rest of the decor. The pairings are very important and should be thought out carefully, especially when it comes to colors that are slightly out of the ordinary. So let’s see what is the ideal color palette for sugar paper.

Black and white

The first combination we propose can only be the most classic, the one that looks just right with everything: sugar paper with white or black. These two shades are extremely versatile and we can be sure that we will never go wrong-at most, we will have a less original result. White, in particular, is ideal if we have a dimly lit room that needs to be lightened. In contrast, black offers a greater contrast and lends itself well to rather large rooms with plenty of natural light.

The blue

Another fairly classic choice, but one that can still provide great satisfaction, is the tone-on-tone: to sugar paper, therefore, we can combine various shades of blue to create a very harmonious environment without great contrasts. It is a good choice especially for the bedroom and bathroom, where it is important to avoid over-saturating the walls and furniture so as not to tire the eyes and mind. Playing with lighter and darker shades, we will achieve a delicate and very elegant result, perfect for all occasions.

The pink

Now let’s move on to some more original pairings: sugar paper looks very good with the pink, especially in its more delicate shades, such as antique pink and powder pink. We can arrange a nice sofa or armchair in this color against the painted wall to achieve a truly stunning effect. The extra tip? Use some gold-colored accessory or furnishings., to add some warmth to the room. This combination is perfect especially for more classic furniture styles, but we can dare it in a modern room as well.

Yellow

For those who like to play with contrasts, the perfect match is with yellow: space for accessories and furniture mustard color, to give intensity to the sugar paper (which itself is instead a very dull tone). From the start, the environment will be much brighter, a real concentrated energy. Thus recommended for the study area, the children’s playroom or even the kitchen, where you can recharge your batteries after a day’s work by spending some time in front of the stove.

The red

Without exaggeration, even the red offers a great contrast for those with sugar paper-colored walls. Better to take advantage of darker shades, such as burgundy or brick, but crimson, which offers a much stronger impact, is also fine. In any case, we can choose these shades for textiles: from bed linens to pillows, via curtains, rugs and plaids with which to drape the sofa, these furnishing accessories embellish the room and give that touch of color That’s needed for a wow effect.

The green

Finally, why not try the green? Depending on the shade chosen, we will have a different result. Petrol green and teal are perfect for textiles and furnishings such as sofa and armchairs, to dilute the brightness of sugar paper on the walls. On the contrary, teal or sage almost go for tone-on-tone matching, for a more elegant and delicate effect. Also excellent are the neon green or the lime, which instead focus entirely on contrast, especially in darker, dimly lit spaces.
