Among the furnishings complements of greatest effect for our home – and for any environment – we find the mirrors, an element that is characterized by style and functionality. Two aspects that allow each of us to change the perception of a room for the better, making it much brighter and even larger. A strategic optical effect that we cannot underestimate, especially for those who live in smaller spaces.
Why place mirrors in the home?
It is not just a question of Renewing the look of our home: very often, the choice of mirror is dictated by a basic need, viz. improve brightness e enlarge the room. Indeed, its main function does not end with the reflection of our image, or perhaps to “fill in” a gap in the wall. Of course, we must take care to position the mirror in the right way.
Light up the rooms
Let’s say the case of dark furnishings, perhaps in shades of black and white, or even a room where natural light is not so intense. Lighting is strategic, to say the least for any room, and it is not just a matter of style. Being in a dark environment negatively affects mood and productivity, especially for smart workers.
With the ability to To position the mirror in the appropriate way, the light that hits the mirror is reflected in an orderly manner, with the angle of reflection equal to the angle of incidence, making it much more concentrated and visible, without “scattering” it in the room. A useful trick for those who need to illuminate the room naturally and without too much artificial lighting.
Enlarges spaces
We’ve said it before: with this piece of furniture, we get so many benefits, not only in terms of design (because, and this is undisputed, it gives more character). Have you ever wondered. why in a hallway it is a must-have element? It is also in the bathroom, for obvious reasons: we need to look at our reflected image to settle down before we leave and put the finishing touches on our make-up.
Once again, it is its reflective properties that make it indispensable: it gives the impression of enlarging spaces by creating a sort of visual illusion of greater depth. A perspective that certainly comes in handy in rooms that are small by definition, such as the hallway or bathroom, but is also essential in additional rooms of the house. The resulting atmosphere, in the end, is very spacious and airy.
The style factor
Lighting and spaciousness are two undoubtedly useful factors, but let’s not forget style: the choosing the right mirror, in terms of size, shape and frame makes all the difference. Another criterion is the room itself: if it is small, it is better to lean toward a larger complement, to be placed horizontally or vertically as needed. On the market we find products that can meet all needs, such as decorative, full-length or cleanly designed mirrors with minimal lines. Of course, with this we are not saying to overdo it and place mirrors in every corner of the house: less is more is always the best philosophy in terms of design.
Where to place mirrors?
In entrances and hallways they are indispensable, but we can decorate with mirrors including the bedroom, the study, the living room. In recent years, the models of mirrors in trend are different, such as those freestanding, or from the particular forms: when it comes to design, we should always prefer the solution that best suits the rest of the pre-existing decor, as well as our personal tastes, which remain unquestionable. But the question is, how and where to place the mirror to enlarge and brighten a room? There are tricks to exploit, and we tell you which ones.
Hanging the mirror at the end of the hallway
Some people experience hallways with great anxiety: often, precisely because of the confined space, we cannot furnish them as we would like. Yet, to solve the problem of space-or at least its perception – we have the right idea not to be underestimated: decorate with the mirror at the end of the hallway, so that it can reflect light and give a greater sense of width. A small measure that will change everything. Remember, however, that according to Feng Shui rules we should avoid putting the mirror in front of the bed or the front door.
Place the mirror in front of the window
A mirror in front of the window? Or maybe next to it? Yes, that’s the best solution, actually, because that way it will reflect the light and the our room will be totally renovated. By multiplying the natural one, we will achieve a totally simple effect and also at an affordable cost: we will not even have to rely further on artificial light sources during daylight hours.
Putting the mirror behind the furniture
It applies particularly to the stays of modest size: we cannot physically increase the space. But this does not mean that with a mirror we cannot solve the perception: usually, in this case, we lean toward putting it behind a key piece of furniture, including the sofa itself. It sounds like a small measure, and it is true, but it can make all the difference.
Where to put the mirror in the bedroom?
We have given suggestions regarding the location of the mirror, but let’s not forget that there is a room where they are an integral part of the decor: the bedroom. Here we often choose a full-length mirror, for reasons of convenience and everyday use: we definitely need it to take a last look at the look before going out. We can also lean toward a composition of designer mirrors, provided, however, that we do not put them in front of the bed. Usually the indicated wall is the one in front of the window, right above the dresser.
Let us remember, at the same time, that there are mistakes we should definitely avoid. For example, and this applies to all rooms, hanging mirrors in impractical places: they must still fulfill their main function. In case we do not choose the full-length one, we should fix it at a height convenient to everyone. Another tip: never place it in front of a blank wall, bare, because otherwise the aesthetic function would be lost.
